Photography Exhibition, Various Size Prints, 2022
Details
The People Watcher is a series of photographs installed in an exhibition space placed in front of a hand-painted mural of a map of the NYC Metro System, but it is just one part of something bigger. When I began photography, I would have a hard time finding people who would model for me, street photography served as the perfect expression of my artistic ability. As an observer, I always was interested people, the way they dressed, facial expressions, body language, I felt like I could see people in a different light. My photography emphasizes the beauty that goes unnoticed.
This series of photos is just one small part of a 4-year project I have been working towards and collecting photos for a photo book I hope to publish in the future. These photos were taken in different boroughs of New York, the locations range from all over Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and were taken over a 3-week period. I would get on the subway, get on a random train, and get off at a random spot and see what’s around. I felt like NYC was the best area to photograph this series due to the diversity it offers. To capture these images, I wanted to make sure that the subject didn’t know they were having their picture taken. In order to do that I had to use an 80-300mm lens, and I hid in various spots to make sure I was unseen. I wanted this piece to be an immersive and relatable experience making the viewers look at the photos and become The People Watcher.
