Drops of Fire

Acrylic Sculpture, 2023

I created this piece to fulfill as assignment for One Corner, One light. I wanted to take a different approach to one light and instead of using a regular light source I decided to use black light. The corner is important in this piece because it is the darkest part of the room and would ensure that the black light gets shown in its full complicity. I used a laser cutter to cut out rain drop shapes out of a large orange florescent acrylic sheet and hung each drop by a piece of fishing line so that they would be invisible when the lights where off. Each piece of fishing line was attached at the top by a wooden bar to ensure that each acrylic piece was distanced from each other but still connected in one point. I used a blacklight at the top of the bar, shinning down on the piece so that when the lights where off and the black light is on all you would see is Drops of Fire.
